A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his initial championship for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult period, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-time coach his previous coach.

Now working with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive win over opponent Moutet.

It is his first trophy following the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt from spring of the previous year.

The win also signifies Medvedev has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving approach and recurring reactions on court had led observers to doubt if his skill to play at the top level was concluded.

But the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and perform aggressively, reinforced by an better serving game.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Moutet, securing four of the final five points to go ahead.

Both players traded breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his first professional championship, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

Moutet rescued 4 initial break points in a close deciding set before the champion secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched victory with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
